Chef Kiyomi Mikuni is a world renowned chef who values Japanese culinary culture and tradition despite having a Honorary Degree in French cuisine. Recently, Sora Botanical Garden Project created a garden with Chef Mikuni's coined word "Konrikyuu." As the main view of this garden, we selected three tailored pines which were often used in luxurious gardens of the upper class populations to imitate a vast, natural landscape views. In the middle of the garden is a tall "Tenmokusho" pine which represents Mt.Fuji, and located on the other side is "Nobori Ryuu" Pine tailored in a weeping form which are said to bring good fortune. The last pine is the only black pine amongst the two red ones, which is characterized by the roots that grows partially above the ground, representing of the strength of Chef Mikuni himself.
Seijun had visited the famous Hotel Lancaster in Paris with Chef Mikuni, where he was greatly inspired by the French style garden that he decided to include few elements of it into this new garden for Chef Mikuni. This new fusion garden was a great success with Japanese and French elements enhancing each other, just like Chef Mikuni's cuisine. Included in this garden is a design that metaphorically represents the diverse world that Chef Mikuni creates in his dishes. On the soil surface of the dish-shaped planting pot, Seijun arranged “ Kikutsumi" (from Seijun's hometown),”Kamoji-goke", a type of moss that grows well even in full sun, and lastly, a special type of sand called "Fujizuna" from Mt.Fuji. Utilizing these characteristic materials created a unique space with that exist nowhere else in the world.
